So when I got the email for Rachel, I was thoroughly confused as you can probably imagine...thought maybe it was some joke I missed the loop on.
Nope. Sure enough, I was all of the sudden a "no-reply" blogger after making sure I wasn't for years.
So, what happened?
Turns out Google + & Blogger made the change that if you have your Blogger connected to your Google + - your email is no longer attached to comments, making you automatically a "no-reply" blogger. I have no idea why they made the change, some say that it's because they are trying to be proactive in helping keep your inbox filled with less spam. I'm not sure that I necessarily think that was the reasoning behind it, I'm sure it has something more to do with trying to get more people onto Google+ and connecting there socially vs. an email response. Either way, I was extremely frustrated that they just automatically made that change, even if they meant well and were trying to be proactive...call me crazy but I feel like that's a choice that we should all be able to make as adults in the blogging community, ourselves. But I digress.
SO, Friday night is when the light-bulb clicked on about what Rachel was talking about. Which made even more sense that I was getting less responses in my inbox from comments I had made on other blogs (which I was chalking up to it being summer & people are busy), but I did think it was weird that bloggers I knew normally were ones I responded to were now "no-reply" bloggers.
I was livid.
So where did I go? Twitter to rant. And let me tell you, I ranted and threw blogger so far under the bus.
I weighed my options of leaving my G+ connected to Blogger, or disconnecting.
Finally, Saturday morning I got a tweet from the lovely, Brittany from Three Years Down, telling me that she figured out a solution of how to fix it. I'm so grateful she bright this solution to light, although she was probably super ready to not see my ranting tweets like I had been posting for the last 12 hours, but yet again, I digress.
So- If your blog is connected to Google + you will want to be paying attention to the following steps to fix this mess. And let me tell ya, it's super easy, redundant and a bit silly - but it works, and that's what matters the most.
*******************
Simple version: Revert back to your old user profile (under settings - the wheel looking thing), re-create your basic profile, answer the questions (fill in Display Name). Then go to account settings (top right corner under display name). Click edit profile. Select "Show my Email Address". Scroll down to bottom and click "Save". Go Back to the Blogger Dashboard. Click settings (the wheel looking thing),Click Connect to Google+ then follow the steps. Easy Peasy.
*******************
So, although the steps are basic, I know those of you reading that are visual - someone is going to ask me for more detailed steps. So here we have it:
Step 1: Under Settings, click Revert to Blogger Profile.
Step 2: Switch to a limited Blogger Profile.
Step 3: Fill in Display name.
Step 4: On Blogger Dashboard, under your display name icon, click BLOGGER PROFILE.
Step 5: Click Edit Profile.
Step 6: Select "Show My Email Address". Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Save."
Step 7: On Blogger Dashboard, Under settings click "Connect to Google+"
Step 8: Follow the Steps.
Done! :)

If you want to double check to make sure it works, please leave a comment and let me know, and I'll let you know via email reply if I can, and if I can't, I'll leave a reply to your comment here on the blog!
**Checked 1/15/13 for any changes, and added updates.

I didn't mind your rants because I posted an insane amount of tweets when it happened to me! :)
ReplyDeletehow do you know if you are a no-reply blogger!?!
ReplyDeleteYou aren't! :) I can respond to you!! :) If your email isn't attached to your comments, you are a "no-reply" blogger. When comments that come in that are no-reply@blogger.com are from people that don't have their email attached the their comments.
DeleteI'm still not sure whether I''m annoyed or amused that you and I both had this problem... Definitely thankful we both got it fixed!
ReplyDeleteEveryone that attached their G+ account to their blogger is having this problem. Unfortunately it's not just us.
DeleteAm I an no-reply blogger? I am not sure.I have been using Google+ for awhile now!
ReplyDeleteIt is not working for me. It now won't let me connect my Google+ profile anymore. And I am not sure how I will appear on blogger blogs.
ReplyDeleteSomeone posted on my blog last night that I was a no-reply blogger and I had never even heard of it. I loved your steps and PICTURES, some of us need "some splainin" from Lucy, so pictures are GREAT! However, I don't know if it worked or not. :)
ReplyDeleteSo I followed all of these steps until I got to step 5. Every time I clicked on Account Settings after disconnecting from Google+, it would still take me to my Google+ profile! Any idea of what to do next?
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing me how to do this! Would you mind giving me a reply to see if it worked? :)
ReplyDeleteAm I all good now? :)

ReplyDeleteOK - this is now the second time I have gone through these steps because of my Google + profile. Could you please check that it is working OK for me?! I hope this isn't going to be a regular occurrence.

DeleteHey Kristina!
ReplyDeleteRachel was the one who referred me to this page, apparently I was a no reply blogger! I wondered why I never got any responses from anyone...
Would you mind double-checking if mine works now? If not, my email is yelhsa.rellim@gmail.com.
thanks for posting this!
I was told a few weeks ago I was a no reply blogger and I freaked out because I had no idea what that meant! Does it work now?
ReplyDeleteThink I'm all fixed now! Please let me know if I am! Thank you so much for posting this guide.
ReplyDeleteI've seen this tutorial on so many blogs and I've tried it so many times... but it still doesn't work for me. :( It never did... and my email address has ALWAYS been there, the whole time. Any ideas??
